Name: Doug Clifford

Age: 52

Occupation: Teacher, Head Football Coach, Retired June 1, 2004

Position(s) Youth Director, appointed 11-04-04

Number of Years on Board: 1

Number of Years in Federation:   5

Most Memorable Federation Experience: Having my Fishing 181 classroom filmed by ESPN’s Marty Dashiell for telecast on The Two Minute Fisherman, accepting the BASS Federation’s 2003 National Award for Public Relations in Tulsa, OK on behalf of the Perry County Anglers at the Federation Championship, and finding out how many guys were better bass fishermen than I am at the Buckeye Lake Regionals in 204.

Federation’s Strength: We have a tremendous potential to insure the quality of our sport, to provide the best possible image of what it means to be tournament anglers, and to teach the next generation of young people the very best attributes bass fishing has to offer.

Federation’s Weakness: We have 114 Federation Chapters in Ohio with 1800 members, and we have 8 Jr. Bassmaster Chapters statewide. We are the best fishermen Ohio has to offer. Somehow in our overcrowded schedules, we have to find the time to pass on the tradition of bass fishing to the kids who will some day fill our Federation ranks.

General Comments: Teaching kids to fish has been a passion for me for as long as I can remember. When I was a kid a man took the time to unravel my Zebco 404 several times each fishing trip, waited for me because I had overslept, and shared all he knew about fishing and so much more. As Youth Director, I look forward to the challenge of promoting youth programs throughout Ohio in cooperation with our state’s BASS Federation Chapters.
