Black River 2002
North Central Ohio Bassmasters and Region II presented the 2002 Region II State Qualifying tournament.  With day one starting off with a beautiful morning and good fishing, the good weather quickly went south as the wind moved in.  By mid afternoon many of the 108 anglers were off the main lake and within the safe confines of the Black River.

Day two picked up where day one left off.  With cold winds blowing and 4' waves predicting 6 - 8 footers with heavy rain.  Day two was called at 7:00 AM with no dissention among the anglers.  By the time the SQT forms were distributed and everything hurriedly packed the wind and heavy rain had arrived.   We will try to get  pictures of the winners at a later date.

 

 Chuck Carroll, St. Mary's Bassmasters wins with 14.01 pounds in 3 fish a 4.67 average but Tony Cotter, Mill Creek takes Big Bass honors with a 5.47 bronzeback at the Region II State qualifying tournament.  Yankee Bassmasters attempted to repeat last years rout by grabbing 3 of the top seven places of this years regional tournament by Mark Rudasill taking second, Richard Reif at 6th place and last years winner Jason Oastings with the 7th spot. Third place was a tie with Steve Taylor , St. Marys Bassmasters last years fourth place and Bryan Cox, Cridersville.  Dana Ludwig, Wyandot Bassmasters finished fifth after last years second place finish.  The amazing thing about these repeat high finishers is the diversity they have shown fishing these two completely different fisheries of St. Marys and Lake Erie.

There were 211 fish presented at weigh-in going 731.55 pounds  averaging 3.47 lbs. Of the 108 contestants there were 52 three fish limits.  There was one mortality and the remaining 210 were released alive from the OBCF release boat back into Lake Erie by Captain Al.
