OHIO 2004 CASTINGKIDS WINNERS

The CastingKids State Finals was conducted at the I-X Center in Cleveland.  It  was a huge success. There was a total of 72 kids that participated, of which 32 were in the 7-10 year old age group and 40 were in the 11-14 year old group. Sad to say that out of this great group of kids there could only be one winner in each age group. There were no tied scores in either age group so we had no cast off this year. 

           The winner in the 7-10 age group was a repeat winner from last year. Cody Gray age 9, of Westerville, Ohio won again this year with a score of 130. With this type of consistency Cody could very well become a national winner,  with the next stop being the Classic.  Cody is the son of our Youth Director Julie Gray.

          The winner in the 11-14 age group was Darrell Hague age 13. He had a score of 140. Darrell's dad, Todd Hague, said that Darrell has qualified for the State Competition several times but has not been able to advance. This time though it finally happened. The Hague's reside in Marietta, Ohio.

          Both winners and their parents will be going to the CastingKids semifinals which will be held in Tulsa, Oklahoma on the 23-24 of April. From there 10 winners, one from each age group from each of the five Divisions, will advance to the National CastingKids Championship at the 2004 Bassmasters Classic in Charlotte, North Carolina -- July 30 -- August 1, 2004.

   Clubs please be careful when you check a kid's age because it does matter. One sad incident marred the otherwise fabulous evening. One kid came all the way to Cleveland to participate and had to be told he wasn't eligible because a CLUB had not done their HOMEWORK or MATH. He would be 15 by August 31, 2004 and therefore too old to participate.

           Region 3, as usual, did a terrific job of conducting the competition. They were well organized and had everything set and ready to go. There were Regional Directors, Board members, and members from other regions that helped.  Thanks to everyone for the time and effort involved to put on a great event.
